Mission Statement: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge is a Christian-based ministry that builds and renovates houses in partnership with the community.  We provide opportunities for families in need to purchase their own homes, build community and improve their lives.
Volunteer

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.  Please visit our calendar for a schedule of our current builds.

Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support, Public Relations, Construction, Church Relations, Development, and Registration and Hospitality. We also offer opportunities in our ReStore, a volunteer-run building materials recycling center.

We invite volunteers to help us build, assist in the office, work in the ReStore, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary - some volunteers dedicate every day of the week to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge and others spend just a few hours each month working on projects or in the ReStore. As a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that directly or indirectly result in the construction of simple, decent homes.

We are currently seeking skilled carpenters and trades people who can help us as crew leaders to direct small groups of volunteers on the build sites. Non-construction help is also needed on the build site with hospitality and registration.

Volunteer Opportunities
To schedule a date to volunteer, please call the Habitat Volunteer Coordinator at 225.927.6651 or erin@habitatbr.org.
Volunteers must be 16 to volunteer on a Habitat Construction site or at the ReStore and 18 to volunteer in the office.
Volunteers must schedule the date they would like to work in advance by calling or emailing the volunteer coordinator.

Construction Volunteers:
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge seeks both skilled and unskilled construction volunteers.

Skilled construction volunteers will help train and lead general volunteers at the build site. Skilled construction volunteers interested in making a long-term commitment are invited to join Habitat's Super Crew. For more information on this program, please e-mail erin@habitatbr.org.

On a Habitat build site, unskilled volunteers can be just as valuable as construction experts. Habitat's skilled construction staff works closely with unskilled volunteers, teaching them the skills needed to complete each task efficiently and successfully.

Please do not hesitate to volunteer, even if you've never picked up a hammer before in your life!

Volunteer construction days are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:45am until 3pm.

Hospitality Volunteers:
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge seeks Hospitality volunteers to support the construction staff and construction volunteers on-site each week. Tasks will include registering volunteers on-site, serving lunch and keeping volunteers hydrated.

Hospitality volunteers work on typical construction days, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:45am until 3pm.

This opportunity is perfect for unskilled volunteers and small groups.

ReStore Volunteers:

The ReStore is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30am until 5pm. ReStore volunteers can work anywhere from 3 hours a year to 3 days a week. Volunteer tasks include receiving and pricing materials and helping customers locate items in the store.

The ReStore would also appreciate volunteers with extensive knowledge in plumbing, electrical, heating/venting, etc. that would be willing to teach staff or conduct monthly workshops.
